Whoah.

What can we say, AWS knows how to throw a party.  When Andy Jassy and company decided to host 30,000 of their closest friends and relatives in Las Vegas, we couldn’t decline the invitation.

Last week was a great coming out party for VMware Cloud on AWS.  We were able to talk to hundreds of customers and we have gotten tons of feedback on the planned service.  Here are some of the highlights from the week:

  • Pat Gelsinger on stage.  Pat spoke with Andy Jassy about VMC and what it means to our company, our customers and our partners (VMC topic begins at about 1:40).
  • Executive Summit.  Mark Lohmeyer and Matt Garman delivered a great overview session about VMC to an audience of about one hundred attendees at the re:Invent executive summit.
  • theCUBE.  VMware COO Sanjay Poonen was interviewed by theCUBE during re:Invent and discussed our cloud strategy.
  • ENT 317.   Matt Dreyer and Paul Bockelman gave a great sold out session to over 1,000 attendees about VMC and shared some technical details about how the service will work.
  • PTS 205.  Marc Umeno gave an excellent sold out session at the partner theater.  It was standing room only and we had some great conversations afterwards.
  • VMware booth.  We had close to 200 attendees come by the booth during the show.  At times the line to speak with our VMC experts was five or six people deep.  Hopefully, everyone got their questions answered!  We apologize if you had to wait a bit for your turn.

The best moment of the show had to be when Matt Dreyer showed Alexa integrating with the VMC REST API.  “Alexa, ask VMware Cloud to Provision Five Hosts in the Virginia_VMC Datacenter.”  That demo earned Matt a well deserved round of applause.

Overall, it was a great week for the VMC team and we return to work re:Energized (see what we did there?) to get the VMC platform out the door next year.  If you would like more information about VMC, please visit our web site.

As we move closer to our launch next year, we will continue to post new demos and more detail about the service on our YouTube channel.  Please subscribe to get all the latest and greatest info about VMware Cloud on AWS.
